Privacy Policy

The short version

Open Portal sees a screenshot only when you deliberately select one and ask a question about it. That image is used to generate your answer and is not stored — not on disk, not in our database. We keep your email, your subscription status, and a count of how many captures you have made. We do not track you, we run no analytics, and we set no advertising cookies.

What happens to a capture

When you press the shortcut, the app takes one frame of the display under your cursor and holds it in memory on your own machine. Nothing is sent anywhere at this point.

When you drag a box and ask a question, only the part you selected is cropped out and sent over an encrypted connection to our service, along with your question. The rest of your screen is never transmitted. Our service attaches our API credential and forwards the crop and the question to Anthropic, which generates the answer and streams it back to you.

When the answer depends on something current — a start time, a price, a release — the model may run a web search while answering. The search query it writes leaves Anthropic's systems and reaches a search provider; your image does not. Those queries are short phrases the model composes, and if your question is about something private, a search may quote part of it.

The image exists in our service only for the duration of that request. It is never written to disk, never saved in the database, and never included in our logs. Once the answer has been streamed to you, it is gone.

What we store

• Your email address, so we know whose account is whose.
• Subscription status — whether it is active, trialing or ended, and the renewal date — synchronised from Stripe.
• Sign-in records for each signed-in computer, so you can see and revoke them. The tokens themselves are stored only as irreversible hashes.
• Usage records: a timestamp, which model answered, how many tokens it used, and whether it succeeded. These carry no image and no question text — only the counts needed for your allowance.
• Download records: which platform's installer you took, and when.
• Server logs: the request method, path, response code and duration. Request bodies are never logged, because they carry screenshots.

What we never store

Your screenshots. Your questions. The answers. Your card details — those go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers. Passwords, because the product has none.

Who else is involved

• Anthropic — generates the answers. Your crop and question are processed under Anthropic's commercial terms, which do not permit training on them.
• Stripe — takes payments and holds your billing details.
• Resend — delivers sign-in emails.
• Replit — hosts the service and the database.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone beyond the providers above.

Cookies

One cookie, set only after you sign in on this website, holding your session. It is HttpOnly and SameSite=Lax. There are no analytics, advertising, or third-party cookies anywhere on this site, which is why you have not been asked to consent to any.

How long we keep things

Sign-in sessions last until you revoke them or sign out. One-time sign-in links and device codes expire within minutes and are deleted within a day. Usage and download records are kept while your account exists, for billing and abuse prevention. Delete your account and all of it goes.

Your rights

Write to hello@getopenportal.com to get a copy of what we hold about you, correct it, or delete your account entirely. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to object to processing or to complain to a data protection authority.

Children

Open Portal is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly hold data about children.
